cPanel Flash Tutorial: How to move files using File Manager?
This cPanel Flash Tutorial will show you how to move files from one folder to another using File Manager feature of cPanel. When you use the Move File function then the file is simply moved from one directory to another directory without creating a copy of the file. Remember that if you have web pages that hyperlink to this file you will need to edit them to indicate its new location.
Steps
- First log in to cPanel control panel.
- Now click on "File Manager" icon.
- Click on public_html folder icon where your web pages and images usually reside. If required, click on the icon (and not the name) the folder where your source file that you want to move exists.
- Click on the file name (and not its icon).
- On the the top right portion of your screen click on the "Move Files" link. This will display a folder list on the left side.
- Navigate to the folder where you want to place this file by clicking on icons. Now click on the name of the destination folder (and not on its icon).
- The top right corner of the screen indicates if the file was moved successfully. You can use the "Up one level" link and go to that folder to verify the same.
You may face errors if you move a file to a folder where a file of the same name already exists. Placing a file in the incorrect destination folder can also have adverse consequences.
