cPanel Flash Tutorial: How to edit web pages online using File Manager?
This cPanel Flash Tutorial will show you how to edit web pages and HTML files online using File Manager in cPanel. There are two tools in File Manager option of cPanel that allow you to edit your website content online. They are useful for minor regular changes and updates, but may not be efficient for large scale alterations. The tools are "Edit File" and "HTML editor" functions in File Manager and allow you to edit your web pages through a web browser. Using these tools you no longer have to modify and save files locally and then upload to the web host server.
Steps
- Login to cPanel and then click on "File Manager " icon.
- Generally all your web pages are stored in public_html folder. Click on the its folder icon to see the files inside it.
- Click on the name (and not the icon) of the HTML-file / web-page whose content you want to modify.
- Edit File Tool: If you have a working knowledge of HTML then click on "Edit File" link in the top-right portion of the window. This will open a new browser window and show the HTML code of your web page. You can edit the code and paste new HTML tags or content here.
- HTML Editor Tool: Most people are not comfortable editing raw HTML code and would prefer a Word style editor with tools that help format / edit the page. cPanel has an online GUI (graphic user interface editor) built into its File Manager. After clicking on the file name, click on the Online "HTML Editor" link on the top right corner. This will open a new window with a tool bar on top that will help you edit the page easily. This online HTML editor acts like a mini CMS (content management system).
- Whichever of the above options you use, please remember to click on the "save" button / icon when you have finished editing the file. You can also choose to save the file with a different name by typing its name in the box below.
